30 PCB007 MAGAZINE I DECEMBER 2022 Feature Article by Gaurab Majumdar IPC INTERNATIONAL For the first time, IPC APEX EXPO will host an "India Pavilion," showcasing 16 Indian com- panies promoting India's electronics manufac- turing capabilities. e initiative was under- taken by the Ministry of Commerce & Indus- try, Government of India, and implemented by the Indian government agency, Electron- ics and Computer Soware Export Promotion Council (ESC) India. It is the Indian government's goal to intro- duce Indian companies to the global market. Indian companies representing EMS provid- ers, wire harness manufacturers, material sup- pliers, design companies, and PCB manufac- turers will be part of the India Pavilion at IPC APEX EXPO 2023. e government of India places a high priority on electronics hardware manufacturing, as it is one of the crucial pillars of "Make in India," "Digital India," and "Start- up India" programs, all geared to ensure that India becomes a global design and manufac- turing hub. India's electronics manufacturing produc- tion is led by mobile phones, IT hardware (laptops, tablets), consumer electronics (TV and audio), industrial electronics, automo- tive electronics, electronic components, LED lighting, strategic electronics, wearables, and telecom equipment production. India is poised to become a global manufacturing hub and is expected to export approximately $120 bil- lion by 2026. is market-size explosion has been catalyzed by COVID-19-led growth of digital consumption. Electronics manufactur- ers are also seeking diversification of global value chains, so it makes sense for India to be a focus area. e policy of "Make in India" and the large OEMs looking to "Buy in India" have helped the EMS industry grow and solve sup- ply chain issues. e Indian ESDM industry is focusing on PCB manufacturing within India and large companies are looking at investment opportunities within the country.
