120 I-CONNECT007 I REAL TIME WITH... IPC APEX EXPO 2023 SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE E-mobility and Automotive Maers K ey concerns of the e-mobility and automotive sectors were highly vis- ible on the agenda and in discus- sions at IPC APEX EXPO 2023. The 7-31 FHV committee, which boasted record attendance this year, made progress on the review of its draft of the IPC/WHMA-A-620 High-Voltage Cable Addendum. Automotive addenda groups met to discuss the J-STD- 001, IPC-A-610, and the IPC-6012. The Cold Joining/Press-fit Task Group 5-21m tackled many FDIR edits in their two days of meet- ings and proceeded with the ballot for IPC 9797 Revision A. In addition, several other standards task groups met throughout the week to consider the potential impacts of issues like high volt- age, board density, and high power. Discus- sions in these groups showed industry interest and the necessity for standardization in the areas of high reliability and high-speed con- nectors for automotive and related industries. These kicked off new task group activity, and the group is scheduled to meet in February. Many of the Technical Conference papers pertained to various aspects focused on e-mobility, including: • "Investigation of the Electrochemical Reliability of Conformal Coatings Under High Voltage," by Heiko Elsinger, senior expert, Robert Bosch GmbH • "Failure Characteristic of PCBs in Automo- tive EV Powertrain Applications and Solu- tion Proposals to Improve Reliability and Robustness," by Dr. Walter Olbrich, direc- tor, field application engineering, TTM Technologies Article by Tracy Riggan • IPC
