84 SMT Magazine • November 2017 a potential distribution partnership. I am very happy with the amount of relationships I estab- lished here this week. Las Marias: What took you so long to consider Asia and China? Vujosevic: We tried China about 10 or 12 year ago, but we didn't have a good experience, let's put it that way. We didn't have a really good experience talking to companies and I was dis- couraged. We decided we didn't want to do it, so we settled for the U.S. and Mexico mar- ket. But right now, things are a little bit differ- ent. Things are a little bit more professional ev- erywhere, and we think we can develop hon- est and respectable relationships with compa- nies in Asia—in a sense we know that a partner can trust us, we can trust the partner, but also we can trust our customers. Especially regard- ing intellectual property, which we guard very strongly, not just in Asia, but in Europe and ev- erywhere else. So we're very careful what kind of partner we pick and what kind of customers we sell to. Las Marias: Don't you think you might have missed out on the growth surge that happened about a decade ago? Vujosevic: I don't think so. There are still a lot of companies that can use our smart software so- lutions and appreciate our outstanding support. We also have solutions no other competitor of- fers, so there is still a large market for our solu- tions in China and all of Asia. I am very encour- aged with the interest and investment Chinese companies are making into Industry 4.0, and we hope to provide smart software solutions to our customers in China and other countries in Asia. Las Marias: Dr. Vujosevic, earlier this week you presented at the SMTA technical conference about lights-out electronics assembly. Can you please give us a rundown of the whole presen- tation? Vujosevic: First of all, I wrote that paper out of frustration. I'm frustrated that there's not much information about Industry 4.0 as it applies to OPTIMAL ELECTRONICS SETS SIGHT ON GROWTH Figure 1: Optimal applications in MEMS sensor assembly clean rooms.
