38 I-CONNECT007 I SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE 2018 retired, and you're not technically working in the industry any longer, you must still feel commitment to come to IPC meetings. What drives that? Tisdale: It's more due to a lot of the standards being in flux right now, so just to follow through I guess would be the word to use. Goldman: You feel it necessary to finish a job. Tisdale: Yes, to some extent. And you know, it's not only IPC, it's the same with the other stan- dard groups I'm involved in as well. So I was pretty heavily involved, even last year, when I was sort of retired. Goldman: I know it's hard not to be involved, when you have already committed a lot of time and effort in an area. If there was some new young engineer or young person attending IPC, what advice would you give to him or her? Tisdale: I'd say sit in on as many different meetings or technical series that you can get to while you're there. Get to know some of the people in the different meetings and the differ- ent companies that are involved. You know, do the networking thing. That's the critical part of any of these standards activities is really the networking involved. And knowing who's on the same page as you are, so to speak, and knowing how to work your way around certain issues are critical really to driv- ing a standard where everybody wins, as opposed to pushing in the one direction or another. Goldman: Perhaps you have your own agenda, but it's not the only agenda, and you have to recog- nize that. Tisdale: The key is to make sure it's good for the industry, not necessarily your own company, which obviously is primary. But as long as it's a worthwhile industry standard that's going to help everybody involved, that's really what you're looking for. Goldman: Wonderful. Congratu- lations again. It's a big one. Tisdale: Thanks, Patty. I'm just really honored to be getting this award. Goldman: Big footsteps to follow in and obviously you're going to fill them. Thank you, I appreci- ate your time and thoughts. S&T
