Avoiding EMI Problems
With Lee Ritchey
E
The I-Connect007 team met
with design expert Lee Ritchey
to pick his brain on EMI prob-
lems and what can be done to
minimize them. Lee explains the
issues are almost always tied to
power delivery, as well as the abundant amount
of misinformation surrounding this topic.

Eric Bogatin Looks at EMI Root
Causes and Solutions
E
The I-Connect007 team recently spoke with de-
sign instructor and author Eric Bogatin about
the EMI challenges facing PCB designers to-
day. Eric is a "signal integrity evangelist" with
Teledyne LeCroy, as well as an adjunct profes-
sor at the University of Colorado Boulder and
the technical editor of the Signal Integrity Jour-
nal. In this interview, Eric explains why EMI
is so prevalent and what designers and design
engineers can do to avoid EMI from the start.

Fresh PCB Concepts: Controlled
Impedance—Design to Testing
E
Ruben Contreras often gets
questions from customers on
one of his favorite subjects in
PCB design: controlled imped-
ance. Ruben explains how con-
trolled impedance is a science,
which is why he likes it; therefore, it must be
designed and tested comprehensively.

Connect the Dots: Design Tips
For Layout
E
As a PCB manufacturer, Sun-
stone Circuits receives hun-
dreds of PCB layouts repre-
sented in Gerber format every
week. As you might expect,
they're not all created equal.
Some of the layouts check every box and roll
straight into manufacturing, while others need
work before they can be sent to the production
floor. Bob Tise and Matt Stevenson share some
best practices.
