62 PCB007 MAGAZINE I DECEMBER 2021 ensure high-touch items are cleaned and sani- tized multiple times a day through the duration of IPC APEX EXPO 2022. Additionally, the San Diego Convention Center became one of the first convention cen- ters in the United States to achieve the pres- tigious GBAC STAR™ facility accreditation. Under the guidance of the Global Biorisk Advi- sory Council (GBAC), the convention center is implementing a program of stringent proto- cols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention. Centerplate, the food and beverage pro- vider for the San Diego Convention Center, was the first North American venue to achieve the Rise SAFE hygiene verification label for food and beverage services. To earn the label, Centerplate passed a site audit and protocol review covering 36 checkpoints in four core areas: process, people/training, facilities, and hygiene/cleaning. Centerplate demonstrated 100% compliance across all areas. For the most current information regarding COVID-19 protocols for IPC APEX EXPO, visit COVID-19 | IPC APEX EXPO 2022. PCB007 Alicia Balonek is the senior director of trade shows and events at IPC. Alicia Balonek Eureka Robotics, a tech spin-off from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singa- pore), has developed a technology, called Dynamis, that makes industrial robots nimbler and almost as sensitive as human hands, able to manipulate tiny glass lenses, electronics components, or engine gears that are just millimetres in size without dam- aging them. This proprietary force feedback technology developed by NTU scientists was previously dem- onstrated by the "Ikea Bot" which assembled an Ikea chair in just 20 minutes. The break- through was first published in the top scientific journal Sci- ence in 2018 and went viral on the internet when it could match the dexterity of human hands in assembling furniture. NTU Associate Professor Pham Quang Cuong, Co-founder of Eureka Robotics, said they have since upgraded the software technology, which will be made available for a large number of indus- trial robots worldwide by Denso Wave, a market leader in industrial robots, which is part of the Toy- ota Group. Clients purchasing the latest robots sold by Denso Wave will have an option to include this new tech- nology as part of the force controller, which reads the force detected by a force sensor on the robot's wrist and applies force accordingly: apply too little force and the items may not be assembled cor- rectly while applying too much force could damage the items.
