REAL TIME WITH... IPC APEX EXPO 2023 SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE I I-CONNECT007 105 for that class, but he extended it toward my period, so a lot of the students that I'm with here are in my period. What career do you want to pursue? I'm not exactly sure right now. I'm kind of bouncing between either psychology or engineering. That's kind of why I'm out here. I don't know precisely what type of engineer- ing, but my mom is a psychologist, so it's going to be one of those two routes. Earlier today we were down on the showroom floor looking at PCB manufacturing and design. Which one is better, or which one was more interesting? I think when I saw the designs, where they were going through and putting all the intri- cate circuits onto the boards; it surprised me how manufacturing works. I saw how large the machines were and I compared that to the image I already had in my mind of these places, these machines, and all the things they're doing. It was interesting to see how mass production works. Because you're here, what are you trying to get out of the event? Maybe engineering knowledge, that kind of stuff? Yeah, I'm just curious. I want to see what pro- fessional engineers work with, the type of materials they work with, what machines they use, and what they go through on a regular basis. I know once you get up to the more professional level, you have different experi- ences, so I think it's great to open it up to us now and we can actually see what's going on when you get to that professional level. Did you have any background knowledge about this stuff before coming here? I actually had no background knowledge of any of this, especially with the soldering and the plates and all that stuff. I knew what they were and I kind of knew their functions, but I didn't have this much detail, so I feel like I learned a lot when I came here today. Emerald Nieto North County Trade Tech High School What got you interested or why are you here at this event? Well, robotics is really cool and especially 3D printing. Also, my friends were coming, so I thought, why not make a day of it? What career do you want to pursue or major in? Actually, I'm more interested in forensic psychology, that's what I plan to go into. But maybe as a side hobby, all of this is really, really interesting. Out of all the PCB design and manufacturing, fabrication, that kind of stuff, what sort of thing are you more interested in or what fascinated you the most? I thought it was really cool how they could do 3D printing, like 3D print with metal espe- cially. I got a really cool coin that was 3D printed with metal. I didn't even know you could do that. And I learned that people also 3D print prosthetics for the disabled, which I thought was really cool. What do you think of the event so far? I think it's fascinating, and I'm enjoying myself. What do you wish to get out of the event? I realized that soldering is a lot more fun than I remember it being, although it can be dif- ficult sometimes. Honestly, I've just gotten more interested in this subject.
