88 SMT007 MAGAZINE I APRIL 2024 Editor's note: Susan Kayesar's complete paper is available in the 2023 IPC APEX EXPO Pro- ceedings. e electronics industry is constantly evolv- ing and changing. is means that the way companies design and manufacture their prod- ucts must also change and adapt to new trends. One of the most important changes in recent years has been the shi to adopt design for manufacturing (DFM) analysis as part of the standard printed circuit board (PCB) devel- opment lifecycle. DFM is a process that helps companies optimize their designs for manu- facturability. It is a critical step in the product development process, and it has become more essential as the electronics industry becomes more complex. e electronics industry is also in the midst of a major shi toward cloud-based solutions and services. is shi is being driven by sev- eral factors, including the growing popularity of cloud computing, the declining cost of cloud services, improved data security, and increased availability of reliable high-speed internet access. In the general push to move business to the cloud, the electronics industry is following suit. is shi will bring about several changes in the way that electronics are designed, man- ufactured, and sold, and it will further drive the need to lower cost and reduce time-to- market for new product introductions.
