While the overall market share has decreased—from 16% in 2000 to 2.3% in 2022, according to the EIPC (European Institute for Printed Circuits)—there is a clear trend toward consolidation. Undeniably, Asian manufacturers cur- rently hold a signifi- cant advantage in the global PCB market. eir competitive edge stems from a confluence of factors, including access to advanced technol- ogies, highly competitive pricing, and the abil- ity to deliver high-quality PCBs within shorter lead times. is combination has resulted in Asian manufacturers dominating global PCB production volumes. However, the COVID-19 pandemic served as a stark reminder of the vul- nerabilities inherent in overly extended global supply chains. e heavy reliance on distant manufacturing hubs, primarily concentrated in Asia, proved problematic, leading to signif- icant delays and disruptions. Moreover, rising transportation costs, import duties, and cur- rency fluctuations eroded profit margins, add- ing further strain to an already challenging operating environment. Geopolitical uncertainty further exacer- bated these challenges. Trade wars, political tensions, and unforeseen global events intro- duced an element of unpredictability and risk into supply chains, making it increasingly dif- ficult for companies to plan and execute their operations effectively. European PCB manufacturing offers a com- pelling solution to these challenges. Manufac- turers can significantly secure lead times and minimize the impact of logistical bottlenecks by shortening supply chains and bringing production closer to European markets. is
