To learn more about what the IPC Student Member Scholarship means to each winner, please visit: ipcef.org/2024-scholarship-winners. Student members may apply for an IPC Student Member scholarship. Each applicant must showcase their contributions to the industry and academic accomplishments to compete for these scholarships. This scholarship has been designed not only to reduce the financial burden but also to encourage students to enhance their knowledge and skills with real-world industry-related experiences. This was our first year to award high school students with the IPC Merit Scholarship. A $1,500 award was given to these graduating high school seniors: Tyler Christensen, Drew Parish, and Ryan Riegel. Tyler Christensen, University of Alaska, Fairbanks: "Being part of the EPIC (Explorative Pathways for Innovative Careers) Campus in high school provided me with an incredible opportunity through the IPC Merit Scholarship. I'm attending the University of Alaska-Fairbanks to study mechanical engineering. My goal is to use my future experience in the engineering world to come back to my community and EPIC to ensure Littleton Public Schools provides opportunities for every student." Drew Parish, Florida Tech: "In terms of what this scholarship means to me, the belief that the IPC Education Foundation has invested in my abilities not only boosts my confidence in the decisions that I have made, but also drives me to strive for greater academic and personal achievements, setting the stage for future success and impacting my journey in profound ways." Ryan Riegel, Gonzaga University: "The IPC Merit Scholarship means a lot to me because it recognizes how I value my education, as well as my future career. This scholarship will help me to pursue whatever career I end up with, hopefully related to mechanical engineering." SPOTLIGHT ON EDUCATION 2024 IPC Merit Scholarship Winners 2024 IPC Michael Carano Teacher Excellence Award Winner The IPC Education Founda- tion recognizes educators and instructors who enrich the lives of students interested in a career path in the electronics industry. The $1,000 2024 IPC Michael Carano Teacher Excellence Award went to Professor Gerald Herder, a professor in the Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department at California State Polytech- nic University Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Throughout his 35 years of teaching courses across the discipline, he has led the development of industry informed courses in printed circuit design, industrial control electronics, instrumentation, electronic communica- tions, and RF/microwave test and measurement. "I have always felt that teaching our young people is its own award but being recognized by organizations outside the university, such as with the IPCEF Michael Carano Teacher Excellence Award, is a great honor," Gerald says. "I have also been impressed with the can-do attitude of the electronics partners IPC rep- resents and how they have greatly impacted technol- ogy and society. When taking students on site tours or visiting IPC APEX EXPO, I appreciated the innovation, energy, and helpfulness of the people and compa- nies associated with IPC that work to produce these enabling products for many industries, along with learning many things myself. I appreciate the IPC Edu- cation Foundation for offering this recognition and in assisting and informing instructors and students in the field of electronics manufacturing."
