IPC COMMUNITY 36 SPRING 2023 There's a saying that highly successful peo- ple have three things in common: motivation, ability, and opportunity. The same can be said for electronics manufacturing and assembly in Mexico: We have the motivation, the abil- ity, and the unique opportunity to take this industry to the next level. For many years, Mexican compa- nies have reliably produced various products for global markets, and together with more recent invest- ments in homegrown talent, have positioned Mexican manufactur- ing to take advantage of recent shifts in global supply chains and consumer markets. S i m i l a r l y, I P C h a s a long histor y with Mexican companies, providing standards and certification to a largely labor-based workforce. There are nearly 140 IPC mem- ber companies with facilities in Mexico. A Growing Need As the electronics industry grew in Mex- ico, IPC recognized it must train and certify not only labor-intensive roles, but MEXICO and IPC On the Move the more technical roles, such as inspection, design, and engineering. In early 2020, imme- diately prior to the global COVID pandemic, IPC personnel traveled to Mexico and met with numerous companies in our industry. Their goal was to learn how best to serve this growing need for training and certification. While the pandemic restricted further in-person inves- tigation for a time, IPC continued its conversations virtually to guide the development of training programs with Mexico. In 2022, once pandemic restric- t i o n s w e r e m a n a g e a b l e a n d n ew l y d eve l o p e d t ra i n- ing products had been made available in both E n g l i s h a n d S p a n - ish, IPC's Education Team once again set its sights on face- to -fa c e e n ga ge - ment in Mexico. It wasn't enough, however, for IPC j u s t t o c r e a t e Spanish-language p r o d u c t s f o r t h i s vital market and to serve the electronics industry from afar. That's where I come in.
