Let's talk about today's workforce shortage. How can we do better at show-casing our industry to today's youth? It starts at home. Turning off the smartphone/ TV/video games allows for time and space to nurture and grow a young child's creative brain. It is my great hope that the companies and OEMs that participate in PCB and system design, PCB fabrication, and assembly busi- ness will actively look for new and engaging ways to pull young people in and introduce them to all the cool things we do. IPC's appren- ticeship program is one way of doing this, and it is good to see. We need more programs at more levels to reach young people. Our future depends on it. After more than 50 years as an engineer, what do you believe about being an engineer, and what do you know for sure? I believe that engineering is the most inter- esting profession in the world and one of the most noble. It is also a profession that is greatly needed in our world. e problems we need to solve in the future will require the most techni- cal knowledge and creative brains our society has to offer, and we need them to start show- ing up now. As an important side note, I am happy to say that my old chemical engineering department at OSU now has more than 60% female enrollment. What I know for sure is that picking the right career and industry in which to grow and con- tinue to learn is a lot of fun and incredibly ful- filling. e PCB fabrication industry has pro- vided that for me for over 50 years, and it just gets more exciting. I know that you can never stop learning. To be really good at what you do, you must strive to learn every day of your career. Hopefully, you will contribute to a bigger picture than just your job and your company's product. Thank you, Happy. ank you for asking, Marcy. PCB007 Happy's sons, Ben and Dan Holden in 1982.
