38 SMT007 MAGAZINE I MAY 2025 Every update is industry-driven, ensur- ing that CFX addresses real-world manu- facturing needs. e task group works col- laboratively to define new capabilities, add device categories, and improve mes- sage sets through structured review and consensus. In addition to their constant energy to update this forward-thinking archi- tecture, the commit- tee also ensures back- ward compatibil- ity with each version update. ese core design principles allow for seamless interoper- ability between differ- ent CFX SDK versions, so a piece of equipment running on CFX Version 1.3 will connect to a machine running on any other CFX SDK version. Built on modern industrial protocols, IPC-CFX uses JavaScript Object Nota- tion ( JSON) for message formatting and Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP) for secure message transport. is combination of machine and human read- ability and banking industry-level encryp- tion enables secure, lightweight, and scal- able real-time data exchange that is platform- independent and IT-friendly. IPC-CFX is grounded in a core set of prin- ciples designed to support full Industry 4.0 adoption: true plug-and-play interoperabil- ity, secure data exchange without licensing or third-party dependencies, and applica- bility to all segments and sizes of manufac- turing. Unlike traditional one-to-one inter- faces or proprietary APIs, CFX enables com- prehensive, multi-party data communication using a secure, encrypted, and standardized format that can be deployed globally without IP exchange or non-disclosure agreements. IPC provides a free and fully documented Soware Development Kit (SDK), updated with each version of IPC-CFX. Built on .NET Core and available as open-source, the SDK facilitates rapid implementation for equip- ment vendors, OEMs, EMS compa- nies, and solution providers. With the release of CFX Version 2.0, this addi- tion expands the total number of supported device types to 14, not including the versa- tile Generic category, which allows for qual- ification of virtually any equipment type to demonstrate plug-and- play communication. What's New in IPC-CFX 2.0: Expanded Device Coverage and Smarter Data IPC-CFX Version 2.0 introduced signif- icant enhancements to its message set and data models. e update expanded the stan- dard's scope to cover more equipment types and added finer detail to many existing mes- sages, while maintaining backward compati- bility. Below is a summary of key new capa- bilities, message additions, and structural changes in CFX 2.0, based on official IPC- 2591 documentation and changelogs. Expanded Equipment and Process Coverage: Hand Soldering Stations, Wave Soldering, AGV/AMR One major advancement in CFX 2.0 is the inclusion of additional manufacturing pro- " Every update is industry- driven, ensuring that CFX addresses real-world manufacturing needs.
