22 SMT007 MAGAZINE I SEPTEMBER 2025 F E AT U R E A RT I C L E IPC Certification Growth and Standards Engagement in India As India rapidly emerges as a key player in the global electronics supply chain, the role of internationally recognized stan- dards and workforce credentials has never been more critical, and the Global Electronics Association (formerly IPC) is deepening its commitment. It has a renewed mission, "Better Electronics for a Better World," and commitment to sustainability, innovation, and global collaboration—core ele- ments driving the next wave of electronics manufacturing. For India, the implications are profound. The country has seen a sharp rise in IPC certification adoption, with training programs expanding beyond major metros into Tier 2 hubs and both multi- nationals and MSMEs embedding IPC standards into their operations. As India positions itself as a manu- facturing powerhouse, IPC certif- ications are becoming more than best practices; they are critical infrastructure for global compe- titiveness, enabling manufacturers to meet international benchmarks and earn the trust of global OEMs. A New Identity, A Renewed Mission Although the name and visual identity have been refreshed, the essence of IPC standards and certification programs remains unchanged. Training, certification programs, and industry standards continue to operate with the same credibility, technical depth, and consistency that IPC has upheld for over six decades prior to the rebranding. This rebranding is significant for India, a country rapidly climbing the value chain in global electron- ics production. The new identity reinforces a shared mission: to prepare India's workforce and industry for high-reliability manu- facturing, export readiness, and global competitiveness. Driving India's Global Readiness With India positioning itself as a serious alternative in the global supply chain, IPC standards are playing a pivotal role in enhanc- ing the country's manufacturing credibility. Standards like IPC-A- 610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies, and IPC/WHMA- A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, are now integral to supplier evaluations and OEM audits. By adhering to IPC standards, Indian manufacturers are reducing defects, improving first-pass yields, and aligning with the quality expec- tations of global clients.
