28 SMT007 MAGAZINE I SEPTEMBER 2025 prises such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dy- namics Limited (BDL), and BEML are leading this transformation. In FY 2022–23, these companies recorded significant production increases: HAL by 19%, BEL by 12%, BDL by 9%, and BEML by 8%, a clear reflection of expanding domestic capability. According to industry projections: • The EMS sector in defence and aerospace is growing at a CAGR of 32% (2021–26E) • Electronics consumption in aerospace and defence is expected to reach $70–72 billion in the next decade • The demand for aerospace and defence electronics is growing at a 38.1% CAGR, out- pacing many civilian sectors India is not just assembling imported subsystems; it is building complex systems, subsystems, and platforms with increasing domestic value addition. From PCBs and embedded systems to RF modules, power electronics, and cable harness assemblies, India's electronic manufacturing ecosystem is being fortified to support this strategic expansion. The Role of the Global Electronics Association As global OEMs and defence contractors look to diversify sourcing and increase resilience, the association is playing a catalytic role by: • Supporting IPC standards-based training and validation audits for Indian EMS companies • Partnering with industry to promote high-reli- ability electronics manufacturing • Connecting Indian suppliers with global defence and aerospace programs through platforms like IEMI • Facilitating knowledge-sharing forums focused on sustainability, quality, and innovation This framework helps position India not just as a supplier, but as a strategic contributor to global de- fence and space value chains. India's Global Footprint in Exports India's defence exports have grown 34X over the past 10 years, reaching $2.83 billion in FY 2024–25. The goal is to double that to $6.02 billion by FY 2028–29. Export destinations now span over 85 countries, including strategic markets like Australia, Israel, UAE, Thailand, the U.S., the UK, and France.
