30 SMT007 MAGAZINE I AUGUST 2026 The Department of Defense (War) announced the suspension of CMMC Phase II requirements on July 13, 2026, halting the planned Nov. 10, 2026, transition that would have made third-party assessments a condition of contract award for most DoD solicitations involving CUI. A new CMMC Reform Task Force has been launched to conduct a top-to-bottom review of the program until mid-September 2026, with a focus on reducing compliance costs and assessment burdens, particularly for small and nontraditional businesses.
