There is very little room for interpretation. My understanding of quality was shaped during the 13 years I worked in Japan. I saw how much attention Japanese manufacturers gave to prepa- ration, documentation, cleanliness, and process discipline. At first, some of these practices seemed overly cautious to me. Over time, I understood their purpose. Quality is easier to protect when people think carefully before production begins. When we established our company in China, I wanted to bring that discipline into an organiza- tion that could also move quickly and respond flex- ibly. That balance became part of the FSQuality philosophy. Speed matters to our customers, but speed without control creates more problems than it solves. Quality matters, but a perfect board deliv- ered too late may still fail the customer. The Universal Language of QUALITY BY T I A N M I N G L I U, F S Q UA L I T Y
