84 I-CONNECT007 I SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE 2018 by Tara Dunn OMNI PCB E-textiles have been dubbed the "Wild West" of electronics, blazing new trails and merging the electronics and textiles industries. At last year's event, the D-72 E-Textiles Materials Sub- committee was established. This year, e-tex- tiles were also featured in a 90-minute buzz session. The three panelists were Diana Wyman, American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists; Stephanie Rodgers, Apex Mills and partner at The Textile Foundry; and Connie Huffa, Fabdesigns, Inc. All are leaders in the textile industry, representing product design and development, textile manufacturing, and test standards and methods, including Stepha- nie and Diana who are also co-chairs for the D-72 E-Textiles Materials Subcommittee. The lively 90-minute Q&A session gave an excel- lent opportunity to get conversations started for those of us curious about potential applica- tions and the merging of these industries. Questions from the audience focused on a couple of main areas. Sustainability and recy- clability were raised as elements of product design and development, but also in standards development. There were also several ques- tions asked about potential end-use applica- tions of e-textiles across multiple industry seg- ments. What an eye-opening discussion! At this point in development, there appear to be many "specialized applications" in play rather than E-Textiles at IPC APEX EXPO 2018
