But how do you define the best methods for c o m m u n i c a t i o n ? Kelly breaks down four per sonalit y types and why it's important to rec- ognize how one person differs from another. When you better understand how a person thinks, your level of effec- tive communication increases exponen- tially. Nolan Johnson: Kelly, as an industry veteran with a great deal of experience in OEM design and expertise in the early stages of specifying a design for manufacturing and production, what are some of the lessons learned for work- ing with your EMS provider that you and your coworkers have developed over the past two years? Lessons Learned: Communication Still the Key Kelly Dack: I talk oen about the stakeholders involved in creating printed circuits or elec- tronics for the world. It involves communica- tion which, just like in any relationship, is prob- ably the foremost attribute to establish. We need good communication, or systems, pro- cesses, and people do not work. In our industry, we have relationships with suppli- ers, customers, and cowork- ers, and we need to recog- nize the importance of how we communicate with them. W h e n I l o o k a t s u p p l i e r s i n t h e electronics indus- tr y, for example, something that's w o r k e d f o r me is to get out and meet them. I like to shake their hands and make eye con- tact. Most design- ers are very tactile. We like to touch and feel the materi- als. We like the smells of the assembly and fabrication lines.
