Born and raised in Mexico City, Lorena Villanueva, IPC director of Mexico, spoke of the unique opportunities available to Mexico as a key player in the global sup- ply chain. The combination of established industry, proximity to key markets, and the contin- ued trend of near-shoring of electronics manufactur- ing, well-positions Mex- ico to compete and win against manufacturing regions around the globe. Lorena spoke pas- sionately about how to make that opportu- nity a reality with a labor force highly trained in industry best practices. Mexico has long been an unskilled labor market, but now with more than 100,000 engineering graduates each year, the country is positioned to take on design, engineering, and manufacturing responsibilities in a significant way. "The only way for Mexico to solidify itself as the partner of choice for the U.S. value chain is through a trained and qualified labor force," she said during her presentation. "IPC Mexico is ready to help the industry in this endeavor." W i t h ve r y p o s i tive feedback from the nearly 50 participants, IPC Day Mex- ico was a great success. It provided valuable insights and networking opportunities for all attendees. We look forward to orga- nizing similar events in other regions of Mexico.
