MAY 2025 I SMT007 MAGAZINE 39 cess categories. Hand soldering stations and wave soldering machines are now supported by dedicated CFX message definitions. ese traditionally manual or semi-automated sol- dering processes can thus generate stan- dardized real-time data in a CFX network, improving traceability and analytics for sol- dering operations. In addition, the standard now supports factory intralogistics devices; automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) used for material transport can communicate via CFX to unify data streams across more production steps and systems. Smarter Messages: More Detail, Better Insight CFX 2.0 also refines several core messages with new parameters and structures to cap- ture more granular production data: • Units inspected (Test and inspection): e panel inspection result message now includes an optional "PCBVariant" field to identify the specific board variant or ven- dor for a PCB. is addition allows trace- ability of PCB differences (for example, tracking which board vendor's bare board was used) that can influence inspection outcomes and process optimization. • Materials installed (SMT placement): e SMT placement capability was extended to include detailed pick-and- place cycle information for each com- ponent. New fields such as Picking- Time, PickingSequence, and Installation- Sequence record when a part was picked and its sequence order within the place- ment cycle. Even components that were not successfully placed are now described with their pick attempt time and sequence in the NonInstalledComponent structure. ese enhancements provide a detailed view of component placement and any failed pickup attempts on the machine. • Placement fault reporting: To comple- ment the above, the standard's fault mes- sage for SMT placement was expanded with a new parameter "NumberOf Tries- BeforeError." is optional field captures how many consecutive pickup attempts occurred before a placement error (such as PartExhausted or a feeder/nozzle fault) was declared. Logging the number of retries helps systems understand the con- text of component exhaustion or feeder errors without relying solely on machine- specific knowledge, improving diagnostic insight into material faults and support for predictive feeder maintenance. Track On-the-fly Changes with Recipe Management Updates Version 2.0 introduces a new message to better handle dynamic recipe changes during production. LocalRecipeChanged was added to log any on-the-fly modifications an oper- ator makes to an active recipe at the equip- ment level. is message contains a list of production changes detailing actions such as skipping a specific unit on a panel, remov- ing or restoring certain components from the work order, using an alternate part in place of the original, or even re-teaching a fidu- cial reference. Each change record includes a defined Type (enumerated as UnitSkip, ComponentRemoval, ComponentAlternative, FiducialTeach, etc.) and a State (Activated or Deactivated) indicating whether the change is currently in effect or has been reversed.
