92 SMT007 MAGAZINE I MARCH 2022 the Raspberry Pi design team, the UK's Man- ufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), Aegis soware, and of course, the IPC. e team is focused on creating an open standard set of hardware and soware, driven by industry consensus, following the guidelines and prin- ciples of IPC standards development. e fundamental value of this initiative is to open and enable Industry 4.0 digital manufac- turing in areas that native CFX soware alone cannot penetrate. Providing open source of hardware design, components, and soware means that all potential applications of CFX can be considered, with pitfalls of cost and risk associated with bespoke design and deploy- ment avoided. In particular, we would encour- age machine vendors to see this as an opportu- nity to expand their Industry 4.0 footprint for older machines, with low risk and cost, but sig- nificant value to customers. e outreach is to any company or individ- ual that may be interested, to contact the team, to help with the initial hardware and soware framework development, as well as the testing and trialing of prototypes to be used as show- cases. Nolan Johnson talks with Chris Mitchell, vice president of Global Government Relations at IPC, on indus- try advocacy in Washington to educate Congress on our key issues. Their conversation also covers the growth in global advocacy. Real Time with... IPC: Advocacy in Washington
