38 PCB007 MAGAZINE I MARCH 2022 e inhomogeneous composition of most PCB laminates introduces local variations in the material's complex permittivity, which in turn can affect the performance of intercon- nects operating at high frequencies. ese local variations in the horizontal plane are primarily caused by the fiber weave and have been shown to result in a periodic loading effect exhibited by the transmission line interconnects. e comprehensive study 1 predicted the frequency at which these resonances occur with rigor- ous numerical and graphical methods, which considered the pitch between the fiber woven bundles and trace angle (with respect to the bundles). To investigate the effect of this periodic loading phenomenon on our patch antennas, the following routing Ф angles (0°, 3°, 7°, 10°) were used to orient the microstrip structures with respect to we of the weave.
