FEBRUARY 2024 I PCB007 MAGAZINE 95
On the Line With..., where industry experts share
the latest insights and perspectives on the most rel-
evant topics in the electronics industry. In this new
season, host Nolan Johnson visited ASC Sunstone
in Mulino, Oregon, for a series of in-depth conversa-
tions with VP, Manager, and published author Matt
Stevenson about the specifics that can affect your
circuit board during the manufacturing process.
We have come a long way from business
executives like "Nuclear" Jack Welsh and
Al "Chainsaw" Dunlap. Remember when
old Milton Freidman declared that a busi-
ness' only obligation was to its holders or
when employees were disposables (prac-
tically consumables)? Oh, those were the
days, my friend, we thought they'd never
end. Well, they're over. Al is dead and
buried both physically and in reputation.
Why is organizational
change needed?
Because in America, people tend to
accept that a certain amount of error
is normal. You expect the plane to be
late. You expect the mail to be unde-
livered. You expect consumer elec-
tronics and products to break down.
As the largest privately held
printed circuit board man-
ufacturer in North Amer-
ica, with headquarters in
Irvine, California, Summit
Interconnect has eight facil-
ities, including one assem-
bly shop. Coming back into the industry after a
career move that took him to Amazon, Summit
COO Sean Patterson reflects on the issues of
culture, the new workforce and PCB capacity
issues in the United States, to name just a few.
Barry Matties speaks with
Ventec International COO
Mark Goodwin about a new
direction for Ventec. As a
creative thinker and entre-
preneur at his core, Mark
explains that Ventec's move
to add select equipment lines to their product
lineup only adds value for their existing custom-
ers and complements existing product lines.
A new year always means new opportu-
nities in Washington, D.C., but this elec-
tion year presents special challenges. If
you make, buy, or depend on printed cir-
cuit boards and substrates, here are five
things our industry can do to make 2024
a winning year for our growing team. 1.
Put circuit boards and substrates on the
ballot.
