Since then, I've become involved in the IPC APEX EXPO Technical Pro- gram Committee; I'm helping to review the technical content of the papers for the confer- ence. That work has helped further progress my knowledge and engage with the industry. What technologies in electronics have you most excited? I am excited about quantum computing and the impact that it can have across multiple industries, such as the impact on drug dis- covery and personalized medicine. There are also many interesting engineering and reli- ability challenges when working with hard- ware at the ultra-low temperatures required for quantum computing. That's interesting. Let's talk about mentors. I've had several mentors in my career. One of the most impactful was Marie Cole, now a retired IBM distinguished engineer, who encouraged me to take on my current role. I have appreciated her men- torship and guidance in navigating my career path. It is important to talk with your mentors about their career progression, learn from their mistakes, and make note of what they found benefi- cial along the way. Another mentor of mine is Michael Carano, who was paired with me through the Emerging Engineers program. He encouraged me to become involved in IPC and helped me navigate the standards com- mittees. I still participate in several of the committees that he introduced me to. What do you hope to achieve in your career? Is it quantum computing? Perhaps that's the way to go. Yes, that would be very important for IBM strategy in the future. Overall, I want to become a well-respected technical leader within my company and the industry, and I want to have responsibility for setting the strategic directions and guiding the team. What advice would you give to other young engineers who are perhaps attending their first meeting? I would recommend for young engineers or newcomers to IPC APEX EXPO to attend as many technical sessions and commit- tee meetings of interest as possible. From there, you can determine which areas and commit- tees are most beneficial for you. I would also say to be proactive and open to new opportunities. If you see a colleague or someone in the industry who's working on something that is interest- ing or exciting, reach out. Ask if you can assist in the project or if you can be their mentee. I found that most people are very willing to share knowledge, especially within our industry. Most careers are not linear, so be open to new proj- ects. You usually do not follow the path you thought you would after college. You may find new projects and opportunities you had not previously considered, but you end up excel- ling in them and enjoy doing them. That's great.
