REAL TIME WITH... IPC APEX EXPO 2023 SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE I I-CONNECT007 181 REAL TIME WITH... IPC APEX EXPO 2023 SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE I I-CONNECT007 181 I hope to see the cable harnesses that I design through to production and ultimately installed on a vehicle that will make an impact on history in the aerospace industry. Are there any special mentors who have helped you? If so, what was most impactful? Garry McGuire has been my most impactful mentor in this industry. He has been able to give me technical answers to all of my insane "why do we do it this way" type questions over the years. What advice would you share with others? Like any career, working in the electronics industry is going to have its good days and its hard days. Just don't forget your passion for the industry and know that even the hard days will not last forever. What technologies have you most excited? The advances that electronics have brought to the space industry for sure. I am very excited to see where this brings us in the next decade! How has IPC helped you? The thing IPC has helped me with the most is opening my eyes to why standards are the way that they are. Being on committees, I get to be a part of the discussion that leads to impactful acceptance of standard changes and really hear the discussion for and against every change. How would you like to be involved in IPC going forward? I would like to continue to support the IPC committees that impact the cable harness industry from a leadership perspective. Thank you, Christina. I wish you well. S&T Brad Toone Committee Meetings: A Bridge to Unity Interview by Andy Shaughnessy The IPC-J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Joint Task Group met Saturday and Sunday during the runup to IPC APEX EXPO, drawing 168 attendees. I spoke with a handful of committee members during coffee breaks and asked them to share their thoughts on this meeting. I'm here at the IPC-J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Joint Task Group Meeting at IPC APEX EXPO. With me is Brad Toone of L3 Harris. Brad, why are committee meetings like this so important? These meetings are important because they enable us to establish the standards and guidelines for our industry and unify everybody about what's acceptable, as well as the direction that the technology is heading. With the 001 and 610 groups, we've been able to define a lot of the standards. When new technology comes up, we figure out how to determine what's acceptable and rejectable for the new characteristics that we're looking at. IPC's Rising Star Award
