IPC COMMUNITY 40 SUMMER 2024 "The capacity of the number of trained people is directly related to the number of trainers you have," he says. "I do not have the figures of peo- ple IPC-certified and recertified in France and in Europe, but demand in France is growing. We are hiring trainers, and the other training center in France is hiring as well. Furthermore, as we certify CITs for other companies, it goes without saying that the number of overall certifications is growing." Hand-in-hand Another way that IFTEC supports the industry is through IPC Hand-Soldering Competitions, which are opportunities to "highlight and honor all these 'shadow workers' who are major con- tributors and just as important as the personnel of automated production processes and design- ers," Pierre-Jean says. "These are good communication tools that show IPC standards are not abstract constraints but apply in real life," he adds. "These are good in charge of training and trade agreements at ACSIEL until 2023. IFTEC regularly works with nearly 500 compa- nies, offering training in design, PCB manufac- turing, component soldering, and other related techniques. The full scope comprises up to 26 short-duration specialized training offerings. The center also does IPC certification and recer- tification of employees (CIS and CIT): CID, CID+, IPC-A-600, IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, and IPC-7711/21. Their labs offer analysis and expertise on bare PCBs and PCBAs, including micro-sectioning, visual inspection, X-ray, SIR tests, Bono corro- sion tests, ionic contamination, solderability tests (wetting balance), and connector, termina- tion, and lug shear testing. IFTEC also distributes IPC standards. Pierre- Jean says the company became an IPC Training Center in 2011 and has trained 9,544 industry members since. The average number of employ- ees trained is 1,000 per year. Winners from this regional event are invited to compete in the IPC World Hand Soldering Championship in Munich at productronica/electronica.
