IPC COMMUNITY 88 SUMMER 2024 IPC India has broadened its international presence far beyond India by hosting the first- ever hand-soldering competition in South Africa. The event occurred at Priben Distributions Cc, Johannesburg, on May 9, 2023. This competition offered a unique platform for South African par- ticipants to demonstrate their hand-soldering expertise and engage in competition at an inter- national level. The winner of the event was Zolani Vincent Khutlang, Divigraph. He will participate in the IPC Hand Soldering World Championship at electronica in Munich later this year. Offering the winner from South Africa the opportunity to participate in the Hand Solder- ing World Championship is a fantastic way to encourage skill development and foster a sense of global camaraderie within the electronics industry. It's not just about the competition but also the invaluable experience and exposure from participating in such prestigious events. This will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and enthusiasm within the electronics industry in the South Africa region, inspiring more indi- viduals to pursue excellence in their craft. "IPC's hand soldering competition created enthusiasm within electronics manufacturing companies in South Africa to showcase hand soldering skills globally," says Thevin Arumugam, managing director, Priben Distributions Cc. "The session generated awareness of IPC standards. The HSC has provided individu- als with an opportunity to showcase their skills, fostering the development of the art of hand soldering. It instills confidence among participants and motivates them to enhance their performance for future oppor- tunities."
