REAL TIME WITH... IPC APEX EXPO 2023 SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE I I-CONNECT007 133 instructor, and most recently, as a PCB indus- try writer, columnist, and video interviewer. What's next? I hope to one day emerge as an inspiring mentor to the diverse, new genera- tion of emerging engineers; I want to help them along just as so many others affiliated with IPC have helped me. Contact IPC and ask how you can participate. Wrap yourself in the IPC community. How you emerge may sur- prise you. Mentor One of my skills is identifying with and relat- ing to a variety of personalities. Knowledge- able educators who recognize the learning styles and then adapt their teaching style accordingly, will have students who can suc- cessfully learn and master any subject. I have benefited from mentors who adapted to my learning style throughout my entire career— including some very engaging PCB mentors at this show. I hope to give back in the same way to our younger set through my involvement with IPC. One way to make the most of IPC APEX EXPO is to collect your experiences and share them with the next generation of STEM leaders. All it takes is a little socialization, teaching with tactility, emergence, and mentorship. S&T Kelly Dack is a regular columnist for I-Connect007. To read past columns, click here. Mike Morris Task Groups: Channeling the Voice of the Manufacturer By Andy Shaughnessy While exhibitors were setting up their booths in the days before IPC APEX EPXO opened, the IPC-J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Joint Task Group met upstairs in a flurry of activity. The packed con- ference room echoed with laughter, opinions, and sometimes pointed discus- sions, with each vote triggering a sea of green cards. I asked Mike Norris of Northrop Grumman to discuss the efforts of this task group. I'm speaking with Mike Morris, a qual- ity engineer with Northrop Grumman. Mike, why is this task group meeting so important? These meetings allow assemblers and fabricators to really inspire positive change by making sure the documents serve the specifications and maintain common sense requirements, thereby providing quality assurance for a reliable, efficient product. With this task group, we can ensure we speak for the voice of the manufacturer. Kelly Dack with Terry Hoffman, Cisco Systems.
