IPC COMMUNITY 32 FALL 2024 ics Europe GmbH. "This format has been asked for by industry leaders in the course of the dis- cussions with our European policy meetings in Brussels, when the European Chips Act was close to being passed." PEDC is co-hosted by IPC Europe and FED, the German electronics design and manufacturing association, with marketing support from IPC and I-Connect007. It is designed to connect the European EE industry and the scientific commu- nity. It includes two days of lectures and expert panels in two parallel thematic blocks on tech- nologies and processes for the development and production of electronic assemblies and sys- tems. There will also be a keynote and an evening networking event. Topics will include development, design for excellence, software and tools, and the design process of electronic systems. All presentations will be in English. "Our aim with this format is to bring the indus- try together and offer a platform for exchanging knowledge," says Christoph Bornhorn, executive director of FED. "Experts meet, exchange ideas, and network on an international level. This can result in projects and innovations that ultimately benefit the entire industry." FED represents the interests of 700 members, including PCB designers and manufacturers, EMS and EDA companies, and more. It provides its members with guidance and support on tech- nical business processes and decisions. "One focus of the association's work is the prepara- tion and transfer of specialist knowledge and the qualification of electronics professionals," Christoph says. Peter says this collaboration between the localized German association and IPC's world- wide reach has been a perfect fit. Because Peter is German, it has provided a more solid opportu- nity for IPC to work with FED in their common language. "We attended the FED annual conference in September 2023 and liked how they organized and managed their conference," he says. "We thought it fit very well for how we envisioned an event. Philippe Leonard, senior director of IPC Europe, and I went into a FED board-level dis- cussion with them right after the event to dis- cuss this idea. Now, here we are." Christoph Bornhorn, Hans-Peter Tranitz, and Dieter Muller.
