With connections to local schools and colleges, he often meets with students and encourages them to consider careers in manu- facturing. Weidmuller USA offers scholarships and financial assistance to students at local col- leges, including Virginia Commonwealth Univer- sity (VCU) and Virginia Tech. "We bring in interns and help with senior (cap- stone) projects," he says. "We recruit, sponsor projects, and assist in teaching a class. We donate several controllers to them to learn about IoT. We currently have nine engineers from VCU on staff and two interns." Phil enjoys his ability to have "an impact on the day-to-day influence of the staff. "Innovation is partof our company, and I always look for inno- vativepeople who enjoy exposure to new tech- nologyand how we assemble," he says. "We have robotic assembly and automation, which is cut- ting-edge for new engineers. That helps us with recruitment." Another thing that helps with recruitment is the "Top Workplace" moniker Weidmuller earned three years in a row. Weidmuller USA has been recognized by the Richmond Times- Dispatch as a top workplace employer since 2022 and recently earned the 2024 Top Work- places USA honor, issued by Energage and announced by USA Today in 2024. Top Work- places USA celebrates organizations with 150 or more employees that have built great cultures. Winners of the Top Workplaces USA list are based solely on employee feedback gathered through an employee engagement survey issued by Energage. "We are part of a large global company with a rich heritage in electronics and engineering," says Caroline March-Long, senior marketing director at Weidmuller USA.
