IPC COMMUNITY 80 FALL 2024 India The event featured several panel discussions, including a session on "Building Electronics Bet- ter in Defense and Aerospace Applications," that brought together some of the most respected minds in the industry to discuss the evolving landscape of defense and aerospace electronics. Moderated by Sanjay Huprikar, the panel featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including: • Rama Murthy, former regional director, DRDO/RCMA, Hyderabad • Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt (Retd.), director general, Indian Space Association • Col. Shekar Mishra, officiating controller, CQA (Electronics) Directorate General of Quality Assurance • Damodaran Subramanian, committee mem- ber, Society of Automotive Engineers India • Caitlin Searle, counsellor, Dept. of Industry, Science and Resources, Consulate General of Australia, Bengaluru • Mohammed Essa AL Abbar, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, UAE • Riwan Tamic, CEO, C-Mac Holdings, Belgium The panel session on defense and aerospace electronics was a standout moment of IEMI India 2024 because it not only highlighted the challenges faced by the industry but also pointed to the immense opportunities for growth and collaboration. Such forums will be crucial in shaping the future of defense and aerospace technologies. An afternoon technical awareness session on "Joint Services Specifications (JSS) for Printed Circuit Boards" underscored the importance of JSS in ensuring the quality and reliability of defense electronics. Col. Shekar Mishra, officiat- ing controller at CQA (Electronics), directorate general of quality assurance, and B. Johnson, senior manager at Astra Microwave Products Ltd, provided comprehensive insights into the topic, with closing remarks by IPC's David Bergman. One of the highlights of Day 2 was the Vendor Development Program led by the 9 Base Repair Depot (BRD) of the Indian Air Force, which examined the procurement processes and requirements for defense-related electronics. This was followed by the IPC Award Program, which recognized outstanding contributions to the industry. Coming up IEMI 2026 is planned for Jan. 29-30, and will be very different from previous shows. Expect to see "roadshows" for this fourth annual event starting in January 2025.
