IPC COMMUNITY 100 FALL 2024 India By Manvi Kapoor, Deputy Manager, Events and Communication, IPC India Planning and preparing for IEMI is a yearlong process, and it finally all came together at two events in Malaysia and India. This was the third year for IEMI, and this year, we met July 29-30 at the Taj Hotel in Yeswantpur, Bangalore. Our focus was aerospace and defense, attracting more than 1,1,00 visitors, with 400+ B2B meetings between Indian companies and 35 international delegates from 14 countries, including the U.S., Japan, and Israel. Supported by India's Ministry of Elec- tronics and IT, the Government of Karnataka, and numerous industry associations, the event hosted 48 exhibitors. Key highlights included a Hand Soldering Competition, expert speakers from leading global aerospace organizations, and over 100 participants across India. IPC India staff also gathered at the Hotel Olive Tree in Penang, Malaysia, July 24-25, for the Elec- tronics Manufacturing Expo Asia (EMAX), where the theme was "Advanced Packaging of Semi- conductors." This show had approximately 500 visitors and had support from the Penang gov- ernment, MATRADE, and multiple industry asso- ciations. It featured more than 200 B2B meet- ings between Malaysian companies and 29 inter- national delegates from 10 countries, includ- ing India, Japan, and South Africa. Highlights included a Hand Soldering and Rework Com- petition, industry-leading speakers, and several MOUs to foster skills development in electronics manufacturing. At IEMI, standards development meetings took place for EMS suppliers, wire harness, PCB design, EV, and consumer electronics. During these meetings, 92 industry experts from 61 organizations participated and shared the prog- ress of each group with David Bergman, IPC VP of Standards, and Gaurab Majumdar, executive director, IPC India. During these physical interactions with indus- try experts, there was a lot of new interest from more industry experts to join IPC standards development committees and work toward industry standards development. Highlights of the standard development meet- ings: 1. IPC-A-610 (7-31B-IND), IPC/WHMA-A-620 (7-31F-IND), IPC-A-630 (7-31 J IND) 2. Challenges of consumer electronics 3. Update on PCB Test Lab 4. IPC-9911, IPC-2232 Anticipation for Q4 Q4 will showcase a series of exciting techni- cal sessions and competitions across multiple regions. The quarter kicked off with the Student Soldering Competition on Sept. 16 at ITE Col- lege, Singapore, followed by a Keynote Session at the EC Summit 2024 on Oct. 3. A series of Hand Soldering Technical Sessions are taking place in October, with events in Ker- ala (Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin), Andhra Pradesh (Vizag), and South Africa (Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg). These events, sup- ported by industry leaders such as Priben Distri- bution, are set to foster hands-on skills develop- ment in soldering techniques.
