OCTOBER 2024 I PCB007 MAGAZINE 99 Ideally, we would all be aware of what future tech- nology demands will be, at least for the near future, and take steps to be pre- pared to meet those demands. For most of us, however, while we may be aware of what's coming in terms of production requirements, we usually don't do much to get ready for them until we're forced to by the market. Most writers focus on one famous person and what they have to say about business, sports, leader- ship, or whatever, but in his book Notorious: Leadership Lessons from History's Most Notorious Leaders, I-Connect007 columnist and author Steve Williams researched the leadership styles of many famous people. Here's the real kicker: He focused on the infamous rather than the famous; the notorious, and the so-called "bad" guys. Data-driven digital solutions for decision support, process optimization, and opera- tional efficiency have emerged as essen- tial elements for the PCB manufacturing industry, leveraging technologies such as IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide real-time insights into equipment health and performance in the first place. DIS Technology has long been known for being an equipment builder dedi- cated to PCB and assembly registration. Amidst a backdrop of increasing sales and expanding product lines, DIS has inaugurated a new facility and doubled its previous footprint. This move was aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and addressing space constraints that had plagued them for years, as well as allowing for the opportunity to expand their technology offering for their customers. In October, there will be a recess for the home stretch of the campaign; in Novem- ber and December, there will be one more round of policy action by the "lame duck" office holders before the new U.S. government takes office in January. Now is the time for us to try and get those ducks in a row. Technological road mapping plays a fundamental role in many companies' innovation strategies. While doing product development and organizational planning in the industry, I found roadmaps to be excellent tools for strategic and future planning.
