IPC COMMUNITY 68 SPRING 2025 hua Cao took to the stage with enthusiasm, reflecting on the achievements of the past year while laying out a bold vision for the future. The Birth of IPC CAEC: A Professional Platform for Automotive Electronics IPC CAEC was officially established in 2022 amid the rapid development of China's automotive elec- tronics industry. Comprising representatives from OEMs and supply chain enterprises within the auto- motive electronics sector, the committee aims to cre- ate a professional platform tailored to the industry's unique characteristics and trends. Its mission is to provide expert guidance in areas such as IPC standard development, talent cultivation, government collabo- ration, and industry research—all to drive high-quality growth in automotive electronics. Setting Sail in 2024: From Vision to Action In early 2024, when Zhenghua Cao and Guangxiang Lu assumed their roles as chair and vice-chair, they recognized the need for clear direction in an industry characterized by complex supply chains and rapidly evolving technologies. They quickly developed a comprehensive work plan prioritizing standardiza- tion, talent development, enhanced supply chain quality through QML validation, and industry engage- ment through targeted activities. The committee established four working groups— Standards, Training, Validation, and Events—ensuring precision and consistency in its initiatives through quarterly meetings. Every action taken by CAEC in 2024 injected new momentum into the industry. Automotive QML Validation: A Milestone Achievement A key initiative in 2024 was the launch of the IPC J-STD-001/IPC-A-610 Automotive Addendum QML. With CAEC's proposal and support, IPC Validation Service Director Randy Cherry swiftly prepared the validation checklist. The first QML project was suc- cessfully piloted at Magna Electronics (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd. "This is not just our success," said Mingye Zhou, the plant's general manager, following completion of the validation checklist. "It marks a significant step toward higher standards for the entire automotive electronics industry." In addition to the QML validation, CAEC played an active role in the preparation and submission of a standards PIN for insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) technologies and conducted EV industry trend surveys to help companies seize opportunities in the automotive market. Behind each accomplishment were countless late-night discussions and diligent research. From Standards to Practice: Bridging Industry Needs In 2024, CAEC extended its reach across China's manufacturing hubs. From the PCB production lines in Dongtai to SAIC-GM (Shanghai General Motors) and IPC CEMAC e-Mobility Forum in Shanghai, CAEC served as both a catalyst for industry advancement and an attentive observer of industry needs. In Dongtai, a PCB factory engineer raised a pressing question: "Can our processes meet IPC standards?" The 2025 kickoff meeting of the China Automotive Electronics Committee.
