Patty also asked him to describe his involve- ment in the industry. Michael said he started developing software in the 1980s "long before it was recognizable in manufactur- ing." He was self-taught in terms of finding solutions for things in the digital domain. "That's always been my interest, and I'm for- tunate to have had some excellent oppor- tunities and encouragement to create inno- vation throughout my various roles in the industry," he said. "That is what drove my career toward Aegis, with their modern, progressive approach." Michael said he enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to have a significant effect and influence on specific IPC documents. "There are several individuals across the globe with whom I have been privileged to work and have very much been 'in the moment' of getting things done, being con- fident in their approach, as well as being open to accepting ideas shared within the group and the committee as a whole. It's been really enjoyable to get the standards that we have been working on published in better than the expected time scale."
