REAL TIME WITH... IPC APEX EXPO 2024 SHOW & TELL MAGAZINE I I-CONNECT007 57 Because of this research, Ellie said, "The sim- ulated results via the Groisse model suggests that the effect of surface roughness plays a minor role in the high-frequency transmis- sion characteristics. Because the Groisse model is only capable of predicting up to 12 GHz for a 5-inch transmission line, the enhancement factor of the Groisse model might reach a saturation value of 2 under the high-frequency transmission. So, the Groisse model is not accurate at high frequency." This study can provide a clearer understand- ing of the evaluation of conductor losses at high frequencies, she said. "With the development of high-frequency and high-speed transmission, conductor loss is a very important factor," Ellie said. "The quantitative analysis established the correla- tion among the Cu-foil type, insertion loss, and transmission frequency, which offers valuable information in improving the design and characterization of materials and inter- connects for high-frequency applications. I believe that in the future development of the 6G mobile communications, the combina- tion of materials and communication tech- nology is inevitable." All technical conference papers were evalu- ated on their technical content, originality, test procedures, and data used to deduce conclusions, quality of illustrations, and the clarity and professionalism of writing as well as value to the industry. The best technical conference papers of the ECWC16 Technical Conference at IPC APEX EXPO 2024 were voted on through a ballot process by members of the IPC APEX EXPO Technical Conference Program Committee (TPC). The authors were recognized during opening remarks on Tuesday, April 9. "All of the papers making up the ECWC16 Technical Conference at IPC APEX EXPO 2024 represent the highest quality technical content from authors around the world," said Stan Rak, co-chair of the TPC. "The global diversity of the presenting authors increased this year because of the large Asian cohort affiliated with the World Electronic Circuits Council (WECC)." S&T Andy Bautista is a materials and process engineer at Boeing. How are these types of events helpful to someone who's just getting started? If you have a clear vision that you want to be in this industry, whether you want to be in the development side or manufacturing side, there's definitely a place for everyone. There's a lot of material science involved. There's a lot of chemical and mechanical engineering involved. Also, a lot of the OEMs attend the show, so you can net- work with them. If you want to be in electronics, this is definitely the place to be. Interview by Dylan Nguyen Andy Bautista FROM THE
